Kratom Addiction
Kratom is a natural substance. It’s extracted from leaves grown on trees in parts of Southeast Asia, mainly Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. In these countries and beyond, kratom is crushed and brewed as a tea, smoked, or consumed in pill form. For years, people have used kratom to relieve pain or relax.
Although it’s naturally occurring, kratom can have dangerous effects. On top of that, researchers have discovered that kratom contains addictive properties, similar to opioids and other drugs.
Mitragynine is the main addictive substance in kratom. It binds to receptors in your brain the same way opioids do. Over time, people build a tolerance to kratom and need more of it to relax or relieve pain. Once people try to quit kratom, they experience withdrawal symptoms.
That’s when kratom becomes addictive.

Signs of kratom addiction
Heavy kratom use can lead to addiction and withdrawal symptoms once a user tries to stop. Often, these symptoms mimic the same symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
