What is Microdosing?

Microdosing has become a common practice in Silicon Valley since the year 2010. Its primary purpose is to boost energy and enhance productivity. However, the substances used for microdosing remain illegal.

Microdosing happens by consuming about 10 to 20 micrograms of the usual dose only to feel the benefits of the substance. Taking only a minor amount of the importance eliminates the side effects like hallucinations, sensory shifts, etc., providing the exact amount of energy.

Common Microdosing Substances

The substances commonly used for micro-dosing are classified as nootropic and “smart drugs.” Nootropics are natural or manufactured drugs with zero addiction and harmful effects. Whereas the “smart drugs” are the ones that enhance performance with health risks and chances of addiction. Some of the commonly used substances for microdosing are:

  • Caffeine
  • LSD or Lysergic Acid Diethylamide
  • Psilocybin or “magic mushrooms.”
  • Cannabidiol (CBD)
  • DMT
  • Cannabis or weed
  • Ayahuasca
  • Iboga or ibogaine

Advantages Of Microdosing

Microdosing has been proven to enhance work performance and has other benefits like reduced anxiety, reduced drug and alcohol cravings, and increased emotional openness. It has also helped women to relieve the pain during the menstrual cycle. It has also been observed that microdosing heightens the sense of creativity.

It can have other effects like:

  • Increased joy
  • Increased peace and calmness
  • Improved well-being
  • Reduced depression
  • Optimism
  • Improved mental health

Negative Effects Of Microdosing

It can be seen that microdosing has several benefits, but it has some adverse effects, too, as they are drugs, after all. Some of the adverse effects of microdosing experienced by the users are:

  • Feeling more anxious
  • Bad trip leading to remembering previous trauma
  • Unemployment due to consuming other drugs in the name of microdosing

The thumb rule of microdosing is not to feel the drug effect too much. If one feels the impact, it means that they are crossing the line of microdosing or aren’t microdosing at all.

Microdosing is only beneficial when the substances are consumed in a controlled manner. Taking more amounts of the substances in the name of microdosing could lead to addiction.
